The Balcony Walk

Ed and Gerda are over from Holland. They come over every year for a month and bring their sheepdogs with them They enter in trials while they are over here and do lots of sight seeing, but haven't walked in the fells really. Gerda always admires our walk photos and has asked if we can do a walk together while they are over this year.

Bearing in mind Ed and Gerda live in Holland, we thought it would be a good idea to do something without too much climbing, but still with some cracking views. So close to home and fitting the bill, we park at the sanatorium and head out along the balcony

That's Ed on the right and Gerda in the middle. The dog is their youngest - Donna Summer - bought over here as a pup this time last year

That's Donna and Breeze with Abigail out in front. Ed and Gerda have four collies but decided to just bring the younger two this afternoon. Donna and Breeze became buddies right from the off

More hot dry weather and a stoney track meant that Breeze wore a hole in her paw quite early. Fortunately we spotted it before it got too bad so the boot went on to stop it getting any worse.

We head over the bridge to join the Cumbria Way and head back along the other side of the Balcony

Donna and Breeze were enjoying each others company

All three of them seem to be having a great time

We head across the bottom of Lonscale Fell with Derwentwater in the background

You would have thought we had ordered this weather. Hard to believe it's the second half of September.
6.5 miles with minimal up hill work. Ed and Gerda seemed to really enjoy their walk, the challenge will be to find something different next year that fits the bill as well as this, and then arrange the weather!
