Crag Hill and Sail

Now that the main summer season is over we are feeling brave enough to head into busier areas again. Inspired by a recent walk by a David (whose website is my main reference when I am planning these walks) we parked up in Braithwaite and made our way along to Force Crag Mine

At the mines we dropped down to the ford and crossed Coledale beck. Husband shows Jay where we are heading today

As we climb up below Eel Crag we look down on the recently installed water treatment ponds at the mines.

Further up towards Coledale Hause we can look back and see our route up to the mines. If you look on the hillside to the right of the ponds you will see the path that brought us to here as well.

At Coledale Hause we turn right and head in the general direction of Buttermere. Looking back at Coledale Hause that's Sand Hill on the right.

Breeze has a look at the view of the western fells before we turn back to the East to head up Crag Hill

The way ahead to Sail

and the way behind

It was about here that we decided to change our planned route and instead of going over Causey Pike seen ahead

We dropped down below High Moss to join the road at Stoneycroft and walking round to Stair

Then, follow the riverside walk back to Braithwaite

Looking back from the bridge at Low Braithwaite
Another lovely day in the fells. Just over 11 miles and not too many people about.
