Askham Fell and Lowther

Molly is coming for a sleepover tonight and we have arranged to pick here up on our way back from meeting friends for lunch in the Yorkshire Dales. Unfortunately plans have to change as Sheila is taken into hospital so lunch is cancelled. We had planned to walk tomorrow, but the forecast is better today, so we do it today instead. Keeping to the east fits in with collecting Molly, so here goes for something a bit different for a change

Parking in Askham, we head up out of the village onto Askham Fell

Across Moor Divock where we spotted this Common Lizard

And then across fields to Helton. Breeze is happy running anywhere, it doesn't have to be the fells!
It's warm and she's no fool. Whenever she spots a water trough she makes a bee line for it and jumps straight in

From Helton we follow this lovely lonnin to Whale

Where we pass Whale Farm to meet the River Lowther, just in time for an idyllic picnic. Complete with a glimpse of a Kingfisher (too quick to photograph!)

Having walked through woodland for a short while we cross Lowther Deer Park

Passing by the driving arena in front of the castle before heading the short distance up the road back to Askham

For an Ice Cream on the village green.
A very gentle 7.5 miles on another beautiful day. The good news at the end of the day is that Sheila is back at home having spent the night in hospital.
