An Evening in the Foothills of High Pike!

We keep saying we should get and do some walks in the evening. The light is beautiful and the fells are quiet. Finally we decided to do it tonight and the ****** forecasters got it all wrong. We didn't get a clear enoguh evening to get the best of the light. But we went for a short walk anyway

Breeze couldn't care less what the light is like, she just wants to RUN

We had parked by The Splash on Carrock Beck and headed onto the slopes of High Pike. This is where Breeze did all her fell training and she seems happy enough to be back!

The sheep are all settling for the evening, Breeze is absolutely grand with sheep, but we kept her close around them so she didn't scatter them this late in the day

I know, I can't help myself, she's so photogenic!

Here I go again

Little Mell and the Ullswater Fells as we head back to the car.
We'd walked about 3.5 miles and not seen a soul. Not the light or weather we had expected, but a lovely way to spend an evening all the same

Seaside again, but no Fish and Chips

As promised, it's another trip to the seaside for one lucky spaniel. This time Dad's stopping at home, but Aunty Jay and Moll Doll are coming along too.

It took Molly about 5 minutes to get her bearings
And then she ran like a whippet!

Quick shake

and back into the water

Best friends

Having a ball

Too late for Fish and chips today, so we have to make do with Ice cream instead

Not exactly a hardship when they come from here though!

Fish and Chips at the Seaside

Breezy ended our last fell walk with another pad injury, this time a hind leg which has healed quickly, but it needs to harden before she can head back out onto the fells again. Best thing for pad hardening = sand and salt water.  Pretty convenient that the tide's just right for us to start with fish and chips for our dinner!!

Not a bad place to sit and eat your chips

The it's off to the beach for one little girl - well OK she's already been, she's just come back to find out what's taking us so long!

This Syberian Husky decides to join in and starts to chase Breeze. It soon gives up when it realises how fast she is and how long she keeps going

Lovin it!

She's only still when she's told to be

Get on with it Mum I want to get running (poor bedraggled girl has had the tags removed from her ears since this shot was taken!!_

Such a fab way to repair her feet, I think another trip is in order next week

High Spy and Maiden Moor via Newlands Valley

We planned to walk up Dale Head and onto Robinson today, but the clouds had other ideas!
We parked at Little Town and made our way up the miners trod. This is really familiar territory, but somewhere we havent been for a good few years. It's new ground for Jay and Breeze. Lots of Herdy ewes and Lambs about today, so Breeze was on the lead most of the time, a very rare occurrence and it explains why she doesn't feature in many moving pictures. But I made up for it with portrait shots!

In theory we are heading up into that cloud on Dale Head, but we have a few plan B's in case the cloud doesn't lift

Hello

Sheepfold below Red Crag

As we head up Miner's Crag towards Dale Head Tarn it isn't looking too promising for the cloud to clear
No lambs here at Dale Head Tarn, so Breeze has chance for a hooley

We stop for lunch near the Tarn and discuss which way to go next

Still plenty of cloud on the higher tops so we decide on a left turn instead of a right turn and head onto High Spy

Looking back at Dale Head Tarn from the short climb up to High Spy, we went over the High Spy, Maiden Moor ridge with a small group  of people ahead (Few photos cause I hate getting random people in photos!)
Derwent Water with Catbells up ahead - Keswicks own motorway can clearly be seen over the top - needless to say we won't be going that way today, far too many people for our liking!
So we sit down on the Heather for a while to let them get ahead out of our way. A perfect opportunity for a few Breezy Portraits!

Smiling Spaniel

Nearly back at the car
7.6 miles, and a great walk. A shame the cloud stayed down and made us change our route, but we can come back another time.

A Watendlath Wander

A few days of glorious sunshine, but we've both been full of cold and Husband really doesn't feel like heading out for a walk. I don't feel much like climbing anything but fancy a walk. So Jay and I head out for a real tourist ramble. We park at Ashness bridge and head up the beckside towards Watendlath

The National Park lads are busy rebuilding the parapets for the bridge which was demolished in the December Floods. Kindly they have built a bit of a causeway for folk to cross the beck in the meantime

A beautiful day for a meander by the beck. Spot the dog! She had a ball dashing in and out of the beck.

Watendlath Tarn

t'other side of the Tarn these two guys were fishing

It is most unlike us to do an 'out and back' walk, but this is such a lovely path and the lack of effort involved was just what was needed. Coupled with the need to keep a source of water for Breeze, who like us is less fit than normal but doesn't twig that slowing down might be a good idea in the heat.

Surprise View
A lovely 5.5 mile. A few more people than we are used to, but that's the price you pay for coming somewhere like this and as they were all polite and friendly then I think we can cope!
