Blencathra With Simon and Sally

Simon and Sal are up for the Farmer's Ball on Friday night. Before they arrived we were trying to decide where to take them walking, husband remembered that Sal has quietly hinted at wanting to go up Blencathra - so that's the plan. It is forecast to be pretty windy today, gusting 50mph but it's an Easterly wind, so we know we'll be safe

Starting from the Sanitorium. It's a beautiful morning even if it is windy

Derwentwater behind us

A quick summit photo - pretty rare to get here and find no-one else on the summit. There were other's not far away but at least for a few seconds, we had it to ourselves

Breeze couldn't wait to get into the tarn, can you spot her on the island?

Dropping down below the top of Atkinson Pike we stop for a bit of lunch. It's a lovely day but the wind is cold and Breeze is wet. She soon feels the cold when we stop, so out comes her jumper

Walking across Mungrisdale Common

Breeze takes no notice of the midget sharing her boulder

Joining the Balcony route

Nearly back at the car

So 7 miles later we are back at the car and Sally has achieved an ambition! we've had a cracking day,
