Wish You Were Here?

A good forecast for today entices us into our second fell walk of the week. Jay is unfortunately on Wife duty today, accompanying James to Musselburgh where one of his flat horses is running. Sorry Jay, you missed a good one!

We had an exciting start to the day when we were stopped in the car on the road to allow this helicopter to pick up a bag of stones from the roadside layby. The path to Aira Force is being improved, and we got front row seats today.

So, having arrived at Hartsop, we retraced our steps from a few weeks ago when we walked a circuit of Hayeswater. Walking up past the old mine workings

To the (soon to be demolished) dam - which was not flowing today as the tarn is so much lower than a month ago. From here we headed off up to the fells above Hartsop

Our second helicopter of the day - this time a police helicopter which circled and then appeared to land behind Angle Tarn Crags.

Walking towards Satura Crag, we were amazed that this group of Red Deer didn't disappear. They knew we were there alright, but just kept their eyes on us. A real treat to see them so close.

Looking back, that's Hayeswater - you know Jay, the one you couldn't see as we walked round it!

Lunch time on Satura Crags. Breeze is beginning to learn the art of relaxing at lunchtime. A cuddle with Mum

And a cuddle with Dad. Shortly after this picture she decided to have a run around and came back like this...................

and promptly shook all over us, covering us both is black spots. Bet you're glad you went racing now Jay!

From Satura crags it was on to the main object of the day - Angle Tarn. The scene from many a Christmas card and the favourite spot of a good many folk. On a day like this it is easy to see why.

Breeze contemplates wild swimming - those geese look interesting

From Angle Tarn we walk down Stoney Crag. Breeze took the opportunity to have a go at building a cairn. After all, it's what all two year olds do when they are on the fells

Didn't she do well?

As we arrive at Boredale Hause and turn to head back towards Hartsop, the bottom end of Ullswater comes into view

The with Hartsop down to our right, Brothers Water can be seen beyond.

A bit over 7 miles and an awful lot of photos to sort through when we got home. It's a tough life!
